Discover the people, heritage, and purpose behind Malvern Panalytical.
Malvern Panalytical was born from the union of two pioneering analytical instrumentation companies: Malvern Instruments, founded in 1968 in Worcestershire, England, and PANalytical, whose roots trace back to the Philips X-ray laboratory in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Together, we bring more than a century of combined expertise in particle characterisation, X-ray analysis, and molecular measurement to scientists, engineers, and quality professionals worldwide.
Today, as part of Spectris plc, we operate in over 20 countries with a global team of more than 2,500 experts β physicists, chemists, software engineers, and application scientists β united by a shared mission: to make the invisible visible so our customers can make the impossible possible. From the first commercial laser diffraction particle sizer to the latest multipurpose X-ray diffractometer, our instruments have helped shape industries ranging from pharmaceuticals and advanced materials to mining, energy storage, and food science.
Our philosophy is simple: science moves faster when we share what we know. That is why we invest heavily in knowledge sharing through application notes, webinars, training academies, and collaborative research partnerships. We believe that by empowering our customers with deep measurement insight, we contribute to a world that is healthier, safer, cleaner, and more sustainable.
Pushing the Boundaries of Measurement Science
We invest consistently in research and development to deliver instruments that set new benchmarks for sensitivity, speed, and ease of use. Our R&D centres in Malvern, Almelo, Kassel, and Westborough collaborate to turn emerging measurement principles into robust, commercially viable platforms that solve real-world analytical challenges.
Your Success Is Our Mission
We listen, learn, and co-develop solutions with our customers. From initial feasibility studies through method validation to long-term service agreements, our application scientists and field engineers work alongside your teams to ensure every instrument delivers the results you need, every time.
Net Zero by 2030, Full Value Chain by 2040
We are committed to achieving Net Zero in our own operations by 2030 and across our full value chain by 2040. From energy-efficient instrument design and responsible sourcing of materials to reducing packaging waste and extending product lifespans through refurbishment programmes, sustainability is embedded in everything we do.
2,500+ Experts in 20+ Countries
From our headquarters in Malvern, UK, and Almelo, the Netherlands, to regional offices and centres of excellence across North America, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America, our global footprint ensures you always have access to local expertise. Our teams include PhD-level application scientists, certified service engineers, and dedicated training professionals who understand the specific analytical challenges of your industry and your region.
A Legacy of Scientific Firsts
Our heritage brands β Malvern Instruments, PANalytical, Micromeritics, and Claisse β each brought transformative technologies to analytical science. The Malvern Mastersizer pioneered laser diffraction particle sizing. PANalyticalβs Empyrean redefined multipurpose X-ray diffraction. Micromeritics set the standard for BET surface area and porosity measurement. And Claisse revolutionised XRF sample preparation with automated fusion. Today, these legacies converge in a single, unified portfolio that offers unmatched analytical breadth and depth.
