Plans built around your life

Plans built around your life

Pensions, protection and investments from a company owned by its customers

Life rarely runs to a neat plan. A new job, a new baby, an illness, a house move, a retirement date that shifts by a few years β€” our products are designed to bend around all of it. Choose what you need now and change it as your circumstances change.

One mutual, four ways to feel more secure

Royal London has been helping people in the UK build financial security since 1861. Because we are owned by our customers rather than shareholders, the money we make is reinvested in better products, clearer service and ProfitShare awards β€” more than Β£2bn shared with eligible customers so far.

That ownership model shapes how we design everything. We do not sell complexity for its own sake. We publish our charges plainly, we explain the trade-offs of every decision, and we tell you when a product is not right for you. Whether you are paying into your first pension, insuring a young family, replacing an income you cannot afford to lose, or investing for a goal fifteen years away, the starting point is the same: what are you actually trying to protect or achieve?

The questions people ask us most

Should I combine my old pension pots?

Often, yes β€” but not always. Bringing pots together can cut paperwork, reduce total charges and make it far easier to see whether you are on track. Before you transfer, check whether an old scheme carries a guaranteed annuity rate, a protected pension age or a valuable death benefit, because those guarantees are usually lost on transfer. Defined benefit pensions in particular should never be moved without regulated advice. Our pension transfer team will run the checks with you free of charge and tell you honestly if staying put is the better outcome.

How do I qualify for ProfitShare?

ProfitShare is our way of sharing our success with the people who own us. If you hold an eligible pension or investment plan with Royal London, we may add a share of our profits directly to your plan each year. You do not apply and you pay nothing extra for it β€” the award simply appears in your annual statement. Awards are not guaranteed and depend on our financial performance each year, but we have shared more than Β£2bn with customers to date.

Can I get cover with a health condition?

Very often you can. A diagnosis such as type 1 or type 2 diabetes, well-managed high blood pressure or a historic mental health episode does not automatically rule you out. We underwrite individually, look at how well a condition is controlled rather than the label alone, and offer specialist diabetes life cover. Where we cannot offer standard terms we will explain exactly why, and what would need to change for us to look again.
